Job Description

Join Tetra Tech’s dynamic team as an Environmental Chemist specializing in soil and water remediation. In this critical role, you will apply your expertise to analyze environmental samples, interpret complex data, and develop science-based solutions for contamination challenges. You will contribute to projects aimed at restoring contaminated sites, protecting natural resources, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This position involves both laboratory interpretation and fieldwork support, offering a unique blend of analytical rigor and practical application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemical analysis of soil, water, and air samples using various laboratory techniques.
  • Interpret analytical data, identify contaminants, and assess environmental risks.
  • Develop and recommend remediation strategies for contaminated sites.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and project managers on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, Clean Water Act).
  • Assist in fieldwork, including sample collection and on-site monitoring, as needed.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of environmental chemistry advancements and regulatory changes.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry, Geochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • 3+ years of experience in environmental consulting or remediation.
  • Proven experience with analytical laboratory techniques and instrumentation.
  • Strong understanding of soil and groundwater contaminant transport and fate.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, R, Python) and GIS applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to field sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification.
  • Experience with specific remediation technologies (e.g., in-situ chemical oxidation, bioremediation).
  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania state environmental regulations.
  • Professional certification (e.g., Professional Geologist, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager).
