Job Description
Join the YMCA of Springfield, IL team as a Student Lifeguard for a fun and rewarding summer season! This is an excellent opportunity for students looking to gain valuable experience, make a positive impact in the community, and receive essential lifeguard certification, all paid for by the YMCA. We are dedicated to providing a safe and engaging environment for all our members and guests, and you will play a crucial role in upholding these standards. We foster a supportive atmosphere where you can develop leadership skills, teamwork, and critical emergency response capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively supervise aquatic areas to prevent accidents and ensure patron safety.
- Enforce all facility rules, regulations, and policies consistently and professionally.
- Respond to emergencies effectively, including water rescues, first aid, and CPR, as trained.
- Complete necessary incident reports accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized pool deck and aquatic area.
- Conduct routine safety checks of equipment and pool facilities.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with patrons and staff regarding safety procedures.
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
Required Skills
- Ability to pass a pre-employment swimming test (including continuous swim, treading water, and retrieving objects from depth).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of responsibility and attention to detail.
- Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods.
- Must be at least 16 years of age by start of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a lifeguarding or aquatic environment.
- Current certifications in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid (if already obtained).
- Experience working with children or diverse populations.
