Job Description
Join York Region Transit as a Night Shift Bus Cleaner and contribute to the health and safety of our community! You will be responsible for meticulously cleaning the interiors and exteriors of our bus fleet, ensuring all vehicles are spotless and sanitized for the next day’s service. This vital role supports our commitment to passenger satisfaction and public health, operating during the quieter night hours at our Newmarket depot.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough cleaning of bus interiors, including seats, floors, windows, and driver's areas.
- Sanitize high-touch surfaces such as grab rails, seatbacks, and fare boxes to prevent germ transmission.
- Empty waste receptacles and replace liners.
- Clean and wash bus exteriors, including windows, using appropriate equipment and cleaning solutions.
- Restock cleaning supplies within the bus as needed.
- Report any damage, defects, or maintenance issues observed during cleaning to the appropriate supervisor.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Operate cleaning machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
Required Skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high standards of cleanliness.
- Physical stamina to perform demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Flexibility to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in cleaning or custodial services, preferably in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their safe application.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
