Job Description

Join the dedicated team at YMCA of Metropolitan Phoenix as our Summer Camp Nurse! This seasonal role offers a unique opportunity to provide essential healthcare services to campers and staff within an exciting and dynamic summer camp setting. You will be responsible for managing the health center, administering medications, responding to medical emergencies, and promoting wellness. This position is located on-site at our beautiful camp facility and includes seasonal housing and meals, allowing you to immerse yourself fully in the camp experience and focus on the health and safety of our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation of the camp health center, ensuring it is well-stocked and organized.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments to campers and staff as needed, adhering to all protocols.
  • Provide immediate first aid and emergency care for injuries and illnesses, escalating as necessary.
  • Communicate effectively and confidentially with parents/guardians regarding camper health issues and incidents.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential health records for all campers and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and national health and safety regulations, including proper medication storage and disposal.
  • Collaborate closely with camp staff to promote a healthy and safe environment, including hygiene practices and infectious disease prevention.
  • Educate staff on basic first aid procedures, emergency protocols, and recognition of common camp health concerns.
  • Manage and maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of camp health policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Arizona.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification (Healthcare Provider level).
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills to manage diverse health situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for interacting with children, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic camp team.
  • Proficiency in medication administration and accurate record-keeping.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain composure and effectiveness in emergency situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Experience in pediatric nursing, school nursing, emergency care, or public health.
  • Previous experience working in a summer camp or similar youth program setting.
  • Familiarity with camp health protocols, American Camp Association (ACA) standards, and Arizona health regulations.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification or equivalent.
