Job Description
Join the vibrant team at YMCA of Orange County as a Summer Camp Nurse! This is a unique opportunity to combine your passion for healthcare with the joy of working with children in a dynamic outdoor environment. As a key member of our camp staff, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive medical care, promoting health and wellness, and ensuring the safety of all campers and staff throughout the summer season. We’re looking for a compassionate, organized, and proactive nurse who thrives in a fast-paced setting and is dedicated to creating a memorable and healthy camp experience. Seasonal housing and all meals are provided, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the camp community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct medical care and first aid to campers and staff, including assessment, treatment, and medication administration.
- Manage the camp health center, ensuring it is well-stocked, organized, and meets all health and safety regulations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records for all campers and staff.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding camper health issues and concerns.
- Collaborate with camp directors and staff to develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures.
- Respond to medical emergencies and administer appropriate care, coordinating with local emergency services when necessary.
- Educate campers and staff on hygiene, sun safety, and other health-related topics.
- Oversee the storage and administration of all prescribed medications.
- Participate in daily camp activities and foster a positive and supportive camp environment.
Required Skills
- Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics, emergency medicine, or school nursing.
- Ability to work independently and make sound medical judgments in a camp setting.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to maintain composure and effectiveness in emergency situations.
- Passion for working with children and youth.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
- Experience working in a summer camp or similar youth program setting.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Basic Wilderness First Aid or Lifeguard certification.
