Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a Class A commercial motor vehicle (flatbed truck) for regional hauls.
- Secure various types of cargo using tarps, straps, chains, and other equipment in strict accordance with DOT regulations and company standards.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensuring vehicle and equipment are in optimal working condition.
- Maintain accurate electronic logbooks, delivery documentation, and other required paperwork.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with dispatch, customers, and team members regarding load status, potential delays, and any issues encountered.
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local traffic laws, as well as all company safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure timely and efficient delivery of goods, representing Schneider National with professionalism.
- Manage time effectively to meet delivery schedules and maximize on-duty hours.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Minimum of 6 months of verifiable flatbed driving experience.
- Clean driving record with no major violations in the last 3 years.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, climbing, and the ability to frequently lift 50+ lbs for tarping and load securement.
- Strong commitment to safety, compliance, and customer service.
- Proficiency in basic English communication (read, write, speak).
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ year of dedicated flatbed driving experience.
- Experience with various types of specialized cargo (e.g., building materials, machinery, steel).
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs) and transportation management software.
- Current DOT medical card.
