Job Description

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Social Skills Mentor to join our team. As a Social Skills Mentor, you will work directly with mentees, facilitating engaging activities and discussions designed to build confidence, foster healthy relationships, and equip them with the tools they need to navigate social situations successfully. Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement engaging activities and workshops focused on social and communication skill development for mentees.
- Provide one-on-one and group mentorship, guiding mentees through discussions and role-playing exercises to improve interpersonal skills.
- Assist mentees in identifying communication barriers and developing strategies to overcome them.
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages open communication and active participation.
- Collaborate with program coordinators and families to ensure mentee progress and address specific developmental needs.
- Document mentee interactions and progress, contributing to program evaluation and reporting.
- Act as a positive role model, demonstrating effective communication and social behaviors.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development related to youth mentorship and social-emotional learning.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect effectively with youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and active listening abilities.
- Basic understanding of youth development principles and social-emotional learning.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Communication, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with youth (e.g., volunteering, tutoring, camp counseling).
- Familiarity with group facilitation techniques.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus.
