Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Remote Paleontology Data Clerk to join our Natural History team. This is a 100% Work From Home (WFH) administrative position responsible for the precise input, organization, and maintenance of paleontological specimen data. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and accessibility of our extensive collections information, supporting research, exhibitions, and public access to our invaluable resources. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail, strong data management skills, and an interest in natural history or scientific data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately input new paleontological specimen data into the museum's digital databases.
  • Verify and update existing specimen records, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
  • Digitize legacy records, photographs, and related documentation.
  • Assist with data cleaning, standardization, and quality control initiatives.
  • Generate reports and extract data sets as requested by research staff.
  • Collaborate with curators and collections managers to clarify data discrepancies.
  • Adhere to established data entry protocols and privacy guidelines.
  • Participate in virtual team meetings and training sessions.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience with data entry and database management.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and Google Workspace.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively in a remote environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of scientific terminology or willingness to learn quickly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Management, Biology, Geology, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working with museum collections, archives, or scientific data.
  • Familiarity with collection management systems (e.g., EMu, Specify).
  • A genuine interest in paleontology, geology, or natural history.
  • Experience with digital imaging software or document scanning.
