Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and adventurous Policy Field Researcher to join our dynamic team. This role is perfect for individuals passionate about environmental policy and eager to conduct hands-on research in diverse outdoor settings across the region. You will be instrumental in gathering critical data, engaging with local communities, and supporting the development of science-backed policy recommendations related to outdoor recreation, conservation, and regional travel impacts. The position requires frequent travel within Florida, often to remote or natural areas, and a strong commitment to fieldwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct primary field research and data collection in various outdoor environments, including natural preserves, state parks, and coastal areas.
- Perform qualitative and quantitative data analysis to assess policy effectiveness and identify emerging conservation challenges.
- Engage with local stakeholders, community leaders, and government officials to gather insights and build collaborative relationships.
- Prepare detailed research reports, policy briefs, and presentations for internal teams, partners, and external audiences.
- Assist in the development and implementation of surveys, interviews, and focus groups related to outdoor and regional travel behaviors and impacts.
- Monitor relevant environmental legislation, policy changes, and conservation initiatives at local, state, and federal levels.
- Support the organization's advocacy efforts by providing evidence-based findings to inform policy positions.
- Maintain accurate records of all field activities, data, and research findings.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and ethical guidelines during fieldwork and community engagement.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Public Policy, Conservation, Geography, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in field research, environmental monitoring, or policy analysis.
- Proven ability to conduct fieldwork in challenging outdoor conditions, including varied terrain and weather.
- Strong data collection and analytical skills, with proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS) or GIS applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in technical report writing.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively within Florida.
- Knowledge of Florida's natural ecosystems, conservation issues, and relevant environmental policies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience with stakeholder engagement and community outreach.
- Familiarity with qualitative research methodologies.
- Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds and rural communities.
- Certifications in wilderness first aid or other relevant outdoor safety training.
