Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Community Choir Conductor to lead our evening choir program. This role is perfect for a passionate musician dedicated to fostering a love for vocal music within our local community. The conductor will be responsible for rehearsing and directing a diverse group of singers, preparing them for local performances, and creating an inclusive and encouraging environment. This is a part-time position, primarily requiring availability for evening rehearsals and occasional weekend performances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and conduct regular evening choir rehearsals with energy and professionalism.
  • Select appropriate repertoire that challenges and engages singers of varying skill levels.
  • Develop and implement rehearsal plans, focusing on vocal technique, musicianship, and performance quality.
  • Provide constructive feedback to choir members in a supportive manner.
  • Prepare the choir for public performances, including concerts, community events, and festival appearances.
  • Collaborate with the festival's artistic and administrative staff to align choir activities with organizational goals.
  • Manage choir logistics, including attendance, communication, and music library organization.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and enjoyable atmosphere for all choir members.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in choir conducting and ensemble leadership.
  • Strong musicality, including sight-reading, ear training, and score analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire singers.
  • Proficiency in vocal pedagogy and choral techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse age groups and skill levels.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Availability for evening rehearsals and occasional weekend performances.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Music, Choral Conducting, or a related field.
  • Experience working with community-based or amateur choirs.
  • Knowledge of various musical genres and vocal styles.
  • Familiarity with the local Savannah music scene and community.
  • Proficiency in piano accompaniment.
