Job Description

Join LyondellBasell as a Plastic Processing Chemist with a keen focus on recycling and eco-friendly practices. This pivotal role will contribute to our mission of advancing sustainable solutions within the plastics industry. You will be instrumental in developing, optimizing, and implementing chemical processes for the recycling and valorization of plastic waste, ensuring our products meet stringent environmental and performance standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize chemical processes for the recycling and processing of various plastic waste streams.
  • Conduct laboratory and pilot plant experiments to evaluate new recycling technologies and formulations.
  • Analyze and characterize recycled plastic materials for chemical, physical, and mechanical properties.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and R&D teams to scale up successful recycling processes.
  • Ensure all processes comply with environmental regulations, safety standards, and quality control protocols.
  • Document research findings, prepare technical reports, and present results to internal stakeholders.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and scientific advancements in plastic recycling.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise for processing challenges related to recycled content.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of polymer chemistry and plastic processing techniques.
  • Experience with various analytical techniques for material characterization (e.g., FTIR, DSC, TGA, GPC).
  • Proficiency in experimental design and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety procedures and chemical handling.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Direct experience with chemical recycling processes (e.g., pyrolysis, gasification, depolymerization).
  • Knowledge of life cycle assessment (LCA) principles and sustainable material development.
  • Experience working in an industrial R&D or process development environment.
  • Project management experience.
