Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Triage Technician to join our team in a Long-Term Care (LTC) environment. This full-time position operates Monday through Friday, focusing on the initial intake and processing of medication orders, resolving basic order issues, and ensuring a smooth workflow between the facility and the pharmacy. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a proactive approach, and a commitment to accuracy and patient care in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and triage incoming medication orders from long-term care facilities via phone, fax, and electronic systems.
- Verify patient demographics and insurance information, escalating complex issues to pharmacists or senior technicians.
- Perform data entry of new prescriptions and refills accurately and efficiently into the pharmacy system.
- Communicate effectively with nursing staff, prescribers, and other healthcare professionals to clarify orders and resolve discrepancies.
- Process basic prior authorizations and assist with insurance claim resolution under pharmacist supervision.
- Prioritize and manage a high volume of orders to meet turnaround time expectations.
- Maintain organized and accurate records of all communications and order processing activities.
- Adhere to all state and federal regulations, as well as company policies and procedures related to pharmacy practice and patient privacy (HIPAA).
- Assist with other pharmacy support tasks as needed to ensure smooth operations.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current Florida Pharmacy Technician License/Registration
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a retail, hospital, or long-term care setting
- Proficient computer skills, including experience with pharmacy management software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT)
- Experience with FrameworkLTC or similar long-term care pharmacy software
- Knowledge of medical terminology and pharmaceutical calculations
- Prior experience in a triage or call center environment within healthcare
