Job Description

We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Paleontology Archive Clerk to join our Special Collections team at our New Port Richey facility. This crucial on-site role is responsible for the precise organization, cataloging, and high-accuracy data entry of paleontological specimens and associated documentation within our extensive archives. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and accessibility of our collection data, directly supporting scientific research and educational initiatives. This position requires a strong commitment to detail and an understanding of archival best practices, even without prior experience in paleontology – though an interest is a significant plus! Key Responsibilities

  • Perform high-accuracy data entry of paleontological specimen information into the archival database.
  • Organize, label, and rehouse physical specimens and associated documentation according to established archival standards.
  • Conduct quality control checks on existing data for errors and inconsistencies, performing corrections as needed.
  • Assist in the inventory and tracking of paleontological collections.
  • Prepare materials for digitization projects, ensuring accurate metadata capture.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure archival environment for all materials.
  • Collaborate with curators and researchers to ensure data integrity and accessibility of collections.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
  • Proficiency with database systems and office software (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and procedures precisely and consistently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to lift and move archive boxes (up to 25 lbs) and work in a climate-controlled archival environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, Museum Studies, or a related scientific field (e.g., Biology, Geology).
  • Previous experience in data entry, archival processing, or library support services.
  • Familiarity with scientific terminology, particularly in biology or geology.
  • Demonstrated interest in paleontology, natural history, or scientific archives.
  • Experience with archival management systems (e.g., ArchivesSpace, CollectionSpace).
