Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Operating Room / Theatre Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team at Gwynt y Môr Private Hospital in Llandudno. You will play a crucial role in providing high-quality, patient-focused care throughout the perioperative journey, from pre-operative assessment to post-operative recovery, ensuring the highest standards of safety and clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating theatre, equipment, and instruments according to specific surgical requirements.
- Assist surgeons during procedures, including scrubbing and circulating duties.
- Monitor patient vital signs and condition throughout the surgical process.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records.
- Ensure a sterile environment and adhere strictly to infection control policies.
- Provide compassionate pre and post-operative care and support to patients.
- Manage and prioritize workload effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous service improvement.
- Act as a mentor and resource for junior staff and students.
- Adhere to all relevant healthcare regulations, policies, and ethical standards.
Required Skills
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in the UK, or eligibility for registration.
- Minimum of 2 years post-registration experience in an operating theatre setting.
- Proven experience in scrubbing, circulating, and anaesthetic assistance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Commitment to patient safety and high-quality care.
- Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-registration qualification in Operating Department Practice (ODP) or perioperative care.
- Experience with a variety of surgical specialties (e.g., orthopaedics, general surgery, ophthalmology).
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
- Familiarity with private healthcare sector operations.
- Experience mentoring or precepting junior staff.
