Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Marine Surveyor / Inspector to join our dynamic team in Abbotsford, British Columbia. This critical role involves conducting various surveys and inspections on vessels and marine equipment to ensure compliance with international regulations, national standards, and client specifications. The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining safety, quality, and environmental integrity across maritime operations. Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive surveys and inspections of marine vessels, offshore units, and marine equipment.
- Assess damage, evaluate repairs, and ensure compliance with classification rules, statutory regulations, and industry standards.
- Conduct surveys for Hull & Machinery, P&I, condition surveys, and on/off-hire surveys.
- Prepare detailed survey reports, including photographic evidence and recommendations.
- Provide technical advice and support to clients on maritime regulations and best practices.
- Monitor repair and construction projects to ensure adherence to specifications and quality standards.
- Liaise effectively with ship owners, operators, regulatory bodies, and internal teams.
- Participate in incident investigations and provide expert opinions.
- Stay updated with the latest maritime regulations, industry standards, and technological advancements.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Marine Surveyor or Inspector.
- Relevant maritime qualifications (e.g., Chief Engineer, Master Mariner, or Naval Architect degree).
- Thorough understanding of IMO conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, ISPS, MLC), classification rules, and national maritime legislation.
- Proficiency in conducting various types of marine surveys (e.g., H&M, P&I, condition, pre-purchase).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- Membership in a recognized professional maritime association.
- Experience with digital survey tools and reporting software.
- Additional language proficiency is an asset.
- Experience with port state control or flag state inspections.
