Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Excavation Technician with a strong focus on geological survey techniques to join our dynamic team in New Port Richey, FL. In this pivotal role, you will lead field excavation efforts, oversee the collection of critical geological data, and ensure project adherence to safety standards and environmental regulations. This position requires a hands-on leader who can manage a small team, operate heavy equipment, and meticulously document findings for comprehensive geological reports. The successful candidate will play a key role in various projects, including environmental assessments, geotechnical investigations, and resource exploration.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise excavation crews in the field, ensuring efficient and safe operations.
- Operate various heavy excavation equipment (e.g., excavators, backhoes, trenchers) in a safe and proficient manner.
- Conduct and oversee geological logging, sampling, and data collection during excavation activities.
- Implement and enforce site-specific health and safety plans (HASPs) and environmental compliance protocols.
- Maintain detailed field logs, daily reports, and photographic documentation of excavation progress and geological observations.
- Collaborate with project geologists and engineers to understand project objectives and data requirements.
- Perform routine maintenance and pre-operation checks on equipment.
- Assist in the preparation of project-related technical reports and data analysis.
- Train and mentor junior technicians on best practices for excavation and geological data collection.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in excavation or heavy equipment operation, with at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role.
- Proven experience in geological logging, soil classification, and sampling techniques.
- Proficiency in operating excavators, backhoes, and other earthmoving equipment.
- Strong understanding of site safety protocols and OSHA regulations.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and geological maps.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Physical ability to perform demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in Geology, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related field.
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Experience with GPS and surveying equipment.
- Basic knowledge of environmental regulations relevant to excavation projects.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
