Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and physically capable Laundry Porter to join our busy industrial laundry facility in Layerthorpe, York. This essential role involves the efficient and safe movement of linens, workwear, and other textile items within our plant, from receiving to processing and dispatch. The ideal candidate will be reliable, safety-conscious, and possess a strong work ethic, contributing to the smooth flow of our operations in a fast-paced industrial setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently move large quantities of soiled and clean linens, workwear, and other textiles within the laundry facility using appropriate equipment (e.g., trolleys, cage trolleys, pallet jacks).
- Load and unload delivery vehicles, ensuring accurate counting and documentation of items.
- Sort incoming laundry items according to type, customer, and processing requirements.
- Transport processed linens to designated packing and dispatch areas.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the loading bays, sorting areas, and storage rooms.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies, especially concerning manual handling and equipment operation.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards promptly to supervisors.
- Support other team members with general laundry duties as required.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy loads repeatedly throughout a shift.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for inventory counting and documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding and adherence to health and safety procedures in an industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or industrial laundry environment.
- Experience operating manual or electric pallet jacks.
- Knowledge of industrial laundry processes.
