Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Hazardous Materials Chemist with a strong focus on safety and compliance to join our team in Simi Valley, CA. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the analysis, classification, and proper management of hazardous waste materials. Your expertise will ensure all activities adhere to strict federal, state, and local regulations, minimizing risks and promoting environmental protection. This position requires hands-on laboratory work, meticulous record-keeping, and a proactive approach to safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical analysis and characterization of hazardous waste materials using various laboratory techniques.
  • Classify hazardous materials according to DOT, EPA, and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Develop and implement waste management plans in compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections of waste storage areas to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all chemical analyses, waste classifications, and regulatory documentation.
  • Assist in the preparation of regulatory reports and permits.
  • Provide technical support and training to operations personnel on hazardous waste handling and safety procedures.
  • Respond to and assist in managing hazardous material spills or incidents.
  • Stay current with evolving hazardous waste regulations and best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies on environmental compliance matters.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific field.
  • 3+ years of experience working with hazardous materials, waste management, or environmental compliance.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state hazardous waste regulations (e.g., RCRA, DOT, OSHA).
  • Proficiency in chemical analysis techniques and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety principles and practices.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or Environmental Engineering.
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification.
  • Experience with waste profiling and manifest generation systems.
  • Knowledge of California-specific environmental regulations (e.g., DTSC, Cal/EPA).
  • Experience in an industrial or commercial waste management setting.
