Job Description

We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Fruit Sizing Assistant with a strong focus on Quality Control to join our team in Coventry. In this role, you will be crucial in ensuring that all incoming and outgoing fruit produce adheres to Tesco’s strict quality and sizing specifications. Your keen eye for detail will help maintain the high standards our customers expect, contributing directly to product freshness and customer satisfaction. This is an on-site position requiring physical presence in our facility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately measure and size various types of fruit according to company guidelines and specifications.
  • Perform visual inspections for quality defects, damage, ripeness, and consistency.
  • Reject or quarantine produce that does not meet quality control standards.
  • Record detailed data on fruit sizing, quality, and any observed discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to identify trends in product quality issues.
  • Ensure compliance with all food safety and hygiene protocols.
  • Assist with sorting, packing, and labelling produce as required.
  • Maintain a clean and organised work area.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations.

Required Skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Good basic mathematical skills for measurements and data recording.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Physical stamina to stand, walk, lift (up to 20kg), and move produce for extended periods.
  • Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions precisely.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a quality control role within a food production, retail, or agricultural setting.
  • Familiarity with fruit varieties and quality grading standards.
  • Food hygiene certificate (e.g., Level 2 Food Safety).
  • Experience with data entry or inventory management systems.
