Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Fossil Hunt Instructor to lead private adventure tours in the New Port Richey area and surrounding regions. This role is perfect for an enthusiastic individual with a foundational understanding of paleontology or geology, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to client safety and satisfaction. As an instructor, you will guide our clients through designated fossil hunting locations, educate them on local geology and ancient life, assist them in identifying finds, and ensure a memorable and safe expedition. This is an on-site position requiring regular fieldwork.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engaging and educational private fossil hunting expeditions for individuals and small groups.
- Educate clients on Florida's geological history, common fossil types, and ethical collection practices.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants throughout the duration of each tour.
- Provide clear instructions on proper fossil identification and excavation techniques.
- Maintain and inspect all field equipment, ensuring it is in excellent working condition.
- Adapt tour routes and educational content based on client interests, weather conditions, and site accessibility.
- Handle minor first aid situations and be prepared for various outdoor challenges.
- Represent Paleo Expeditions Florida with professionalism and enthusiasm at all times.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of paleontology, geology, or natural history.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging diverse client groups.
- Proven ability to lead and instruct in an outdoor environment.
- Current certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think quickly under pressure.
- Physical stamina to navigate varied terrains and work outdoors in Florida's climate.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Paleontology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Previous experience as a tour guide, outdoor educator, or wilderness instructor.
- Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification.
- Knowledge of Florida's specific prehistoric fauna and flora.
- Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus.
