Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Materials Scientist with a strong background in Chemistry, particularly focused on aerospace applications. In this crucial role, you will be instrumental in the research, development, and characterization of advanced materials for next-generation aerospace systems. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research and development of novel materials (polymers, composites, coatings, metallics) tailored for aerospace applications, focusing on chemical properties and performance.
- Perform comprehensive material characterization using various analytical techniques (e.g., spectroscopy, chromatography, microscopy, thermal analysis) to understand structure-property relationships.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to select appropriate materials for specific aerospace components and systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and performance requirements.
- Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and interpret results to drive material development and optimization.
- Troubleshoot material-related issues in existing products and processes, providing expert chemical analysis and solutions.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and specifications documenting research findings and material properties.
- Stay abreast of new material science technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes relevant to aerospace.
- Contribute to intellectual property development through patent applications and technical publications.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in materials research and development, with a strong emphasis on chemistry for aerospace or a similar high-performance industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in chemical characterization techniques (e.g., FTIR, Raman, GC-MS, HPLC, NMR, DSC, TGA).
- Proficiency in designing and conducting experiments, data analysis, and interpretation.
- Solid understanding of polymer chemistry, composite materials, and advanced coatings.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with materials for extreme environments (high temperature, corrosion, radiation).
- Familiarity with aerospace material specifications (e.g., AMS, ASTM, MIL-STD).
- Experience in additive manufacturing (3D printing) of metallic or polymeric materials.
- Knowledge of failure analysis principles and techniques.
- Project management experience in an R&D setting.
