Job Description
Are you ready to embark on a new and exciting career path? Swift Transportation is actively seeking motivated individuals to join our CDL Trainee program in New Port Richey. This is a unique opportunity for individuals with no prior experience to receive comprehensive, paid training to earn their Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Upon successful completion of our rigorous training program, you are guaranteed job placement as a professional truck driver with Swift Transportation. We are looking for dedicated individuals eager to learn, committed to safety, and ready to contribute to a vital industry. Our program covers all aspects of commercial driving, from classroom instruction to extensive behind-the-wheel experience, preparing you for a successful career on the road.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in all classroom and behind-the-wheel training sessions.
- Learn and apply federal, state, and company safety regulations.
- Master the operation of commercial motor vehicles, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Practice safe driving techniques under various road and weather conditions.
- Demonstrate proficiency in backing, maneuvering, and parking large vehicles.
- Maintain accurate logbooks and comply with all Hours of Service (HOS) regulations.
- Communicate effectively with instructors and future dispatch teams.
- Successfully pass the CDL Class A written and road tests.
Required Skills
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug screen.
- No DUI/DWI convictions in the past 5 years.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficiently to perform job duties and pass DOT examination.
- Willingness to travel and be away from home during training and potential future driving assignments.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to company policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role.
