Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Forensic Toxicologist (Chemist) with a strong focus on Adliye/Legal Support to join our team in Milwaukee. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting complex chemical analyses on biological samples to detect and quantify drugs, poisons, and other toxic substances. A critical aspect of this role involves preparing comprehensive scientific reports, interpreting findings for legal professionals, and providing expert testimony in court. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity in a legal context.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analyses for drugs, alcohol, and other toxic substances in various biological matrices using advanced analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, immunoassay).
  • Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods according to forensic best practices and accreditation standards.
  • Interpret complex analytical data and formulate conclusions based on scientific findings.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and scientifically sound reports suitable for legal proceedings.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in criminal and civil court cases, effectively explaining complex scientific concepts to a lay audience.
  • Consult with attorneys, law enforcement personnel, and other legal professionals regarding toxicology findings and their implications.
  • Maintain laboratory instruments and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Participate in proficiency testing, quality assurance, and quality control programs.
  • Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and ethical guidelines.
  • Stay current with advancements in forensic toxicology, analytical techniques, and relevant legal precedents.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or Master's degree in Forensic Toxicology, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a forensic toxicology laboratory setting, with significant exposure to legal support functions.
  • Proficiency with a wide range of analytical instruments including GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, and immunoassays.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex toxicological data and generate expert opinions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and courtroom testimony.
  • Strong understanding of forensic science principles, quality assurance, and laboratory accreditation (e.g., ISO 17025, ASCLD/LAB).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board certification by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT) or equivalent.
  • Experience with method development and validation in a regulated environment.
  • Previous experience testifying as an expert witness in various court settings.
  • Knowledge of Wisconsin's legal system and relevant statutes pertaining to toxicology evidence.
  • Proficiency in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
