Job Description
Are you ready to kickstart a career in construction and learn valuable trade skills? The Home Depot is seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join our team as a Flooring Underlay Installer Assistant. In this vital role, you will work alongside experienced flooring professionals, providing crucial support in the installation of various flooring underlayments. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with little to no prior experience to gain hands-on training, develop expertise in flooring installation, and contribute to high-quality home improvement projects. You’ll learn the intricacies of subfloor preparation, material handling, and precise underlayment application, directly contributing to the successful completion of residential and commercial flooring projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead installers with the preparation of subfloors, including cleaning, leveling, and minor repairs.
- Measure, cut, and lay various types of flooring underlayment materials (e.g., foam, cork, plywood, cement board) according to specifications.
- Transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from the job site.
- Ensure proper adhesion and securement of underlayment to meet project standards.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment on all job sites.
- Learn and adhere to all safety protocols and company installation guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with lead installers and team members.
- Perform other general labor duties as assigned to support the installation team.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) consistently.
- Basic familiarity with hand tools (e.g., utility knife, tape measure, hammer).
- Strong work ethic and eagerness to learn a skilled trade.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
- Reliable transportation to and from the job site.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring kneeling, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a construction, warehouse, or general labor role.
- Knowledge of basic construction safety practices.
- A valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
