Job Description

Join Tetra Tech as an Entry Level Mitigation Monitor and launch your career in environmental consulting! We are seeking highly motivated individuals to provide on-site environmental monitoring for various construction projects across California, with an immediate opening in the San Diego area. This role is crucial for ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and mitigation measures during project execution. You will gain valuable field experience, work alongside seasoned professionals, and contribute directly to environmentally responsible development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily on-site environmental monitoring of construction activities, ensuring adherence to project specifications, permits, and environmental mitigation plans.
  • Perform pre-construction surveys and post-construction inspections for sensitive resources (e.g., biological resources, cultural resources, water quality).
  • Document field observations accurately and thoroughly, including photographic logs, site conditions, and compliance issues.
  • Prepare comprehensive daily monitoring reports, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, clients, construction crews, and regulatory agencies regarding environmental compliance.
  • Identify and report potential non-compliance situations or environmental risks to project leadership.
  • Assist in the implementation of best management practices (BMPs) to prevent environmental impacts.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions to enhance technical knowledge and skills.

Required Skills

  • Strong observational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in using field data collection tools (e.g., GPS, tablets, cameras).
  • Basic understanding of environmental regulations (e.g., CEQA, NEPA) or willingness to learn.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel to various project sites.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and traverse uneven terrain.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Conservation, Geology, or a related field.
  • Prior field experience through internships, volunteer work, or academic projects.
  • Familiarity with local San Diego flora and fauna, and sensitive habitats.
  • Knowledge of construction practices and their potential environmental impacts.
  • OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour Construction Safety certification.
