Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Developmental Music Specialist with an Early Intervention focus to join our dynamic team in New Port Richey, FL. In this pivotal role, you will utilize the power of music to support the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development of infants and young children, particularly those with developmental delays or at risk for delays. You will work within a transdisciplinary framework, collaborating with other therapists and families to integrate music into daily routines and therapeutic goals. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a profound impact on the lives of young children and their families during critical developmental stages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement individualized and group music-based interventions for children ages birth to three years.
  • Conduct developmental assessments to identify strengths and areas for growth, specifically through a musical lens.
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and other early intervention professionals to develop and integrate music goals into IFSPs (Individualized Family Service Plans).
  • Educate families on how to use music as a tool for stimulation, communication, and emotional regulation within the home environment.
  • Document client progress, treatment plans, and session notes accurately and timely.
  • Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and professional development opportunities.
  • Adapt musical activities and instruments to meet the diverse needs and abilities of each child.
  • Maintain a safe, engaging, and supportive therapeutic environment.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Therapy, Music Education, or a related field with a strong emphasis on child development.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in playing multiple musical instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, percussion).
  • Knowledge of typical and atypical child development from birth to three years.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with young children and their families.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Compassionate, patient, and creative approach to therapy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music Therapy or a related field.
  • Board Certification (MT-BC) by the Certification Board for Music Therapists.
  • Prior experience working in early intervention settings or with children with special needs.
  • Familiarity with early intervention models and best practices.
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus.
