Job Description
The Community Support Aide – Social Focus, Local Government, will play a crucial role in empowering communities and enhancing social welfare initiatives within the Kingston and St. Andrew region. This position is vital for connecting residents with essential resources, supporting local government programs, and fostering a sense of community ownership and resilience. The Aide will work directly with citizens, community groups, and local stakeholders to identify needs, facilitate access to services, and implement social development projects under the guidance of senior staff. This is an on-site role, deeply embedded within the community, requiring empathy, strong communication skills, and a commitment to public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning and execution of community outreach programs and social welfare initiatives.
- Conduct needs assessments within designated communities to identify social issues and resource gaps.
- Liaise with community members, local leaders, and external organizations to build partnerships and support program delivery.
- Provide information and referral services to residents regarding available social, health, and educational resources.
- Support the organization of community meetings, workshops, and public engagement events.
- Maintain accurate records of community interactions, program participation, and resource distribution.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and presentations on community activities and program outcomes.
- Act as a frontline representative of the local government, addressing citizen inquiries and concerns with professionalism.
- Participate in training and development opportunities to enhance skills in community development and social support.
Required Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to community challenges.
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Community Development, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Previous volunteer experience in community service, social support, or non-profit organizations.
- Familiarity with local government structures and community resources in Kingston & St. Andrew.
- Ability to speak Jamaican Patois (desirable but not mandatory).
- Valid Jamaican Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
