Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Cardiac Unit Porter to join our dedicated team at the Heart Specialist Hospital within Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust. This pivotal role involves providing essential support services to the cardiac unit, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and vital supplies. You will be a crucial link in our patient care journey, directly impacting the quality of experience for individuals undergoing cardiac treatment. Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients, including those with critical conditions, throughout the cardiac unit and hospital, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
- Move medical equipment, beds, and other items as required, maintaining a clean and organised environment.
- Deliver specimens, notes, and records to various departments promptly and efficiently.
- Assist medical and nursing staff with patient transfers and positioning when necessary.
- Ensure wheelchairs, trolleys, and other mobility aids are clean, in good working order, and readily available.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including infection control and health and safety guidelines.
- Provide compassionate support to patients and their families, often in challenging circumstances.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and all levels of hospital staff.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good level of physical fitness and stamina to handle the demands of the role (e.g., pushing trolleys, assisting with patient transfers).
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection principles.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a portering role, ideally within a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Experience in a customer service-oriented role.
- Basic First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures in a healthcare environment.
