Job Description
Join the elite team at MGM Resorts International as a Backline Technician with a Specialized Gear Focus, providing critical support for our world-class touring artists and productions. This role is perfect for a highly skilled technician who thrives in a fast-paced live environment, possesses deep knowledge of a diverse range of musical instruments and amplification, and is adept at troubleshooting complex setups. You will be instrumental in ensuring flawless execution of performances, both locally within our Henderson venues and on the road as part of our tour support crew. This position demands precision, a proactive approach, and a passion for music technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Setup, maintain, and troubleshoot a wide variety of backline equipment, including guitars, basses, drums, keyboards, amplifiers, pedals, and other specialized touring gear.
- Conduct pre-show checks, tuning, and adjustments to ensure all instruments and equipment are performance-ready.
- Provide on-stage technical support during sound checks and live performances, addressing any issues swiftly and efficiently.
- Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and calibration of backline equipment to uphold professional standards and extend equipment lifespan.
- Collaborate closely with artists, production managers, and audio engineers to meet specific technical riders and performance requirements.
- Manage inventory, storage, and transportation of backline gear, ensuring secure and organized logistics for local events and tours.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in musical instrument technology and touring practices.
- Assist with load-in and load-out procedures, ensuring safe handling of all equipment.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in the setup, maintenance, and repair of a diverse range of musical instruments and amplification.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for analog and digital audio signal paths.
- Familiarity with various instrument brands, models, and their specific nuances.
- Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and specifications.
- Proficiency with basic hand and power tools relevant to instrument repair and maintenance.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working under pressure with artists and production teams.
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
- Availability to travel extensively for tour support, often on short notice.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in electronics, audio engineering, or related technical field.
- Prior experience as a backline technician for professional touring acts or major entertainment venues.
- Specific expertise in vintage gear restoration or custom instrument modification.
- Knowledge of DMX lighting, stage management, or video production fundamentals.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and experience driving tour vans/trucks.
