Job Description

Join Shure Incorporated as an Audio Mastering & Engineering Intern in Fernie, BC, and gain invaluable hands-on experience at the forefront of audio production. You will learn the intricate processes involved in preparing audio for distribution, ensuring optimal sound quality across various platforms. While the core of this role is based in our Fernie facility, you will be exposed to diverse aspects of audio production, from sound design principles to advanced signal processing techniques. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior mastering engineers with session setup, file management, and quality control checks.
  • Learn and apply various digital audio workstation (DAW) techniques for mixing and mastering (e.g., Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Ableton Live).
  • Support the maintenance and calibration of studio equipment, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Participate in listening sessions, providing constructive feedback and developing a critical ear.
  • Research and evaluate new audio technologies, plugins, and mastering tools.
  • Organize and archive audio assets, metadata, and project files.
  • Shadow engineers during client sessions to observe professional workflow and client interaction.
  • Contribute to minor sound design tasks or audio restoration projects as needed.

Required Skills

  • Foundational knowledge of audio engineering principles and acoustics.
  • Proficiency with at least one major Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Ableton Live.
  • Basic understanding of audio signal flow, effects processing, and mixing concepts.
  • Excellent listening skills and a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced professional environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or diploma in Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design, or a related field.
  • Prior experience with audio mastering software (e.g., Izotope Ozone, FabFilter Pro-MB) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with various audio codecs and delivery formats.
  • Basic understanding of music theory and composition.
  • Experience with studio hardware setup and troubleshooting.
