Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Thoroughbred Trainer / Manager to lead our training operations in Jacksonville, Florida. This pivotal role involves overseeing the daily care, training, and racing preparation of our string of thoroughbreds, ensuring their health, well-being, and optimal performance. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of equine physiology, advanced training methodologies, and exceptional leadership skills to manage a team of dedicated professionals. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized training programs for each horse, tailored to their specific needs and race goals.
- Oversee the daily care, feeding, grooming, and health monitoring of all thoroughbreds under your charge.
- Manage and mentor a team of exercise riders, grooms, and barn staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Collaborate with veterinarians, farriers, and other equine specialists to ensure comprehensive horse health and welfare.
- Plan racing schedules, entries, and logistics in consultation with owners and management.
- Maintain meticulous records of training, health, performance, and racing outcomes.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with horse owners, providing updates on horse progress and future plans.
- Ensure compliance with all racing rules, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Manage barn budgets, inventory, and equipment maintenance.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in thoroughbred training or assistant training roles.
- In-depth knowledge of thoroughbred physiology, nutrition, and common equine health issues.
- Expertise in various training techniques and methodologies for racehorses.
- Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to make critical decisions under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Proficiency in record-keeping and basic administrative tasks.
- Commitment to ethical horsemanship and animal welfare.
Preferred Qualifications
- Trainer's license (or eligibility to obtain one).
- Formal education in equine science, animal husbandry, or a related field.
- Demonstrated track record of success in preparing horses for racing.
