Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Financial Analyst with a strong focus on advanced Excel skills to join our dynamic finance team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented individual looking to start their career in financial analysis and contribute to critical business decisions. You will support various financial planning and analysis activities, developing reports, models, and presentations that drive insights and support strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a foundational understanding of financial principles and demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and enhance financial models and reports using advanced Excel functions (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, SUMIFS, conditional formatting, data validation).
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
- Conduct variance analysis to identify discrepancies between actual and budgeted financial performance, providing clear explanations.
- Support monthly and quarterly financial reporting processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare presentations and dashboards to communicate financial performance and insights to management.
- Collaborate with various departments to gather financial data and ensure data integrity.
- Participate in ad-hoc financial projects and analyses as required.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes and systems.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel at an advanced level (e.g., complex formulas, data manipulation, pivot tables, charting, macros/VBA understanding).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Foundational understanding of financial statements and accounting principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or co-op experience in a finance or analytical role.
- Familiarity with financial planning software (e.g., Anaplan, Hyperion) or ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
- Knowledge of VBA for Excel automation.
- Relevant certifications or coursework in financial modeling.
