Job Description
Are you looking for a career change or a new challenge? Biffa is offering an incredible opportunity to become a qualified Sanitation Truck Driver, with all training and HGV/CDL licensing costs fully covered! This entry-level position is perfect for individuals with a strong work ethic, a clean driving record, and a desire to contribute to essential community services. As a Trainee, you will learn the ropes of waste collection, vehicle operation, and safety protocols under the guidance of experienced professionals. Upon successful completion of your training and obtaining your HGV Class 2 license, you will transition into a full-time professional Sanitation Truck Driver role.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all aspects of the HGV/CDL training program, committing to learning both theoretical and practical skills.
- Shadow experienced drivers on collection routes, observing safe operating procedures and efficient route management.
- Assist with loading and unloading waste and recycling materials, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines.
- Perform daily vehicle checks and report any defects or issues promptly.
- Maintain a clean and tidy vehicle, both inside and out.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations at all times.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and a willingness to take on new tasks.
Required Skills
- Full UK driving licence (Category B) with no more than 6 penalty points.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to strict operational procedures.
- Good physical stamina and the ability to perform manual tasks.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- A genuine desire to learn and develop a long-term career in driving.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a physically demanding role or outdoor work.
- Basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance or mechanics.
- Prior experience operating any type of commercial vehicle (non-HGV).
