Job Description

Are you an 18-year-old looking to kickstart your career in a meaningful way? The Montana State Archives is seeking enthusiastic and detail-oriented individuals to join our team in Records Management. This entry-level position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation of Montana’s historical documents and public records. You will gain hands-on experience in various aspects of archive work, including organizing, cataloging, and maintaining physical and digital records under the guidance of experienced archivists. This role is perfect for those who are meticulous, organized, and have a strong interest in history and public service. No prior experience in archives is required; we provide comprehensive training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the physical arrangement and inventory of archival collections.
  • Perform data entry for cataloging and describing archival materials.
  • Support the digitization efforts by scanning and organizing digital files.
  • Retrieve and re-shelve records for researchers and staff as needed.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of archive storage areas.
  • Adhere to strict confidentiality and security protocols for sensitive information.

Required Skills

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds.
