Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Junior GIS Analyst to join our dynamic team with a focus on pipeline routing. This is a fully remote position, offering you the flexibility to work from anywhere within the United States. You will play a crucial role in supporting our energy infrastructure projects by performing spatial analysis, managing geographic data, and creating high-quality maps related to pipeline development and optimization. The ideal candidate will have a foundational understanding of GIS principles, a keen interest in the energy sector, and a desire to grow their expertise in pipeline routing and environmental compliance. You will work closely with senior GIS specialists, engineers, and project managers to ensure data accuracy and contribute to the successful execution of complex projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform spatial analysis to support pipeline routing and site selection, identifying optimal pathways while considering environmental, regulatory, and engineering constraints.
- Collect, process, and manage geospatial data from various sources, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and completeness within geodatabases.
- Create and update high-quality maps, reports, and visualizations to communicate complex spatial information to project teams and stakeholders.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of GIS databases, including feature classes, attribute tables, and metadata.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., civil engineers, environmental scientists) to integrate GIS data into broader project workflows.
- Conduct quality control checks on GIS data and deliverables to maintain the highest standards of accuracy.
- Research and apply relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to pipeline infrastructure and GIS mapping.
- Document GIS processes, methodologies, and project requirements.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in ESRI ArcGIS software suite (ArcGIS Pro, ArcMap).
- Basic understanding of spatial analysis techniques and cartographic principles.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with pipeline infrastructure, oil & gas industry, or utility projects.
- Experience with Python scripting (ArcPy) for GIS automation.
- Knowledge of CAD software integration with GIS (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Understanding of GPS data collection and processing.
- Prior internship or project experience in a related field.
