Job Description
Chevron is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Hydrocarbon Accountant to join our team in Colorado Springs. This professional career path offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial integrity and operational efficiency of our upstream and midstream assets. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate and timely accounting for hydrocarbon production, inventory, and sales, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations. This role involves complex data analysis, reconciliations, and collaboration with various departments including operations, marketing, and commercial teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and timely accounting for crude oil, natural gas, NGLs, and other hydrocarbon products, including production, inventory, and sales.
- Reconcile production volumes, pipeline movements, storage inventories, and sales data against third-party statements and internal records.
- Prepare and analyze monthly hydrocarbon accounting reports, ensuring data integrity and identifying discrepancies.
- Collaborate with operational and commercial teams to understand new deals, production changes, and their accounting implications.
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls, company policies, and relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS).
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis related to hydrocarbon volumes and values.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and accuracy of hydrocarbon accounting procedures.
- Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Ad-hoc analysis and special projects as required to support business objectives.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in hydrocarbon accounting, oil and gas accounting, or a related financial role.
- Strong understanding of upstream and midstream oil and gas operations and terminology.
- Proficiency in SAP or other large-scale ERP systems.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA certification or working towards certification.
- Experience with production accounting software (e.g., Merrick, P2 Energy Solutions).
- Knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting requirements specific to the oil and gas industry.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).
