Job Description
AECOM is seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental Chemist with a strong focus on soil and water remediation to join our dynamic team in New Port Richey, FL. In this role, you will apply your expertise in analytical chemistry and environmental science to develop and implement effective strategies for contaminated site assessment, characterization, and remediation. You will be instrumental in protecting natural resources and human health by designing and overseeing projects that address complex environmental challenges related to soil and groundwater contamination. This position requires a blend of field work, data analysis, and technical report writing, working within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct environmental site assessments (ESAs) and investigations of contaminated sites.
- Design and implement soil, sediment, and groundwater sampling programs.
- Perform chemical analyses and interpret laboratory data for various contaminants.
- Develop and evaluate remediation strategies for soil and water, including innovative technologies.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, work plans, and regulatory compliance documents.
- Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and project managers on multidisciplinary projects.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations (e.g., FDEP).
- Provide quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) for field and laboratory activities.
- Maintain current knowledge of emerging contaminants and remediation technologies.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in environmental sampling techniques (soil, groundwater, vapor).
- Strong understanding of fate and transport of contaminants in environmental media.
- Experience with environmental data analysis and interpretation.
- Knowledge of federal and state (Florida) environmental regulations (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, FDEP Chapter 62).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification (or ability to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Environmental Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or related field.
- Experience with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) for data visualization and mapping.
- Experience with groundwater modeling software.
- Familiarity with emerging contaminants (e.g., PFAS) and their remediation.
- Prior consulting experience in environmental remediation projects.
