Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Online Community Moderator to oversee and foster a safe, positive, and engaging environment for our community of 16-year-old teens. This remote role is crucial for ensuring that our platform remains a welcoming space where young users can interact, express themselves, and build connections responsibly. You will be instrumental in maintaining community guidelines, addressing concerns, and actively promoting a healthy online culture tailored to the unique needs and sensitivities of this age group.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively monitor user-generated content, including text, images, and videos, to ensure compliance with community guidelines and terms of service.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to user reports, complaints, and inquiries, providing support and resolution in a friendly and professional manner.
- Identify and address instances of bullying, harassment, hate speech, spam, and other inappropriate behavior.
- Proactively engage with the community to encourage positive interactions, discussions, and content creation.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., trust & safety, product, marketing) to identify emerging trends, improve moderation tools, and refine community policies.
- Educate users on best practices for online safety and digital citizenship.
- Prepare regular reports on moderation activities, community health metrics, and significant incidents.
- Participate in training sessions to stay updated on moderation best practices, platform features, and adolescent psychology relevant to online behavior.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in online community management, social media moderation, or customer support.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and make quick decisions under pressure.
- Strong empathy and understanding of adolescent behavior and online safety concerns.
- Familiarity with various online communication platforms and moderation tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a distributed team.
- High level of discretion and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience moderating communities specifically targeted at teenagers or young adults.
- Background in psychology, social work, education, or a related field.
- Proficiency in additional languages relevant to our user base.
- Knowledge of current internet trends, memes, and youth culture.
- Experience with data analysis and reporting for community metrics.
