Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and responsible Hospital Waste Operative to join our dedicated team in Eastbourne. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient management of all waste streams within a busy hospital environment, with a particular focus on clinical and recyclable materials. This position requires strict adherence to health and safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company procedures. Key Responsibilities
- Segregate, collect, and transport various waste streams, including clinical, offensive, domestic, and recyclable waste, from designated areas within the hospital.
- Operate waste compaction and processing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all waste is correctly labelled, stored, and prepared for collection in accordance with legislative requirements (e.g., HTM 07-01 and COSHH).
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in all waste storage areas and equipment.
- Conduct daily safety checks on equipment and report any faults or hazards promptly.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, environmental, and quality standards, policies, and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with hospital staff, colleagues, and supervisors regarding waste management issues.
- Assist with ad-hoc tasks related to waste management as required.
- Participate in ongoing training and development programs.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Strong understanding of health and safety procedures, particularly in a healthcare setting.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
- Physical fitness and ability to lift and move heavy waste containers.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in waste management, ideally within a healthcare or similar regulated environment.
- Knowledge of clinical waste regulations (e.g., HTM 07-01).
- Holder of relevant health and safety certifications (e.g., COSHH, Manual Handling).
