Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Board Certified Music Therapist to join our dynamic healthcare team. This vital role involves providing therapeutic music interventions to patients across various hospital units, enhancing their physical, emotional, cognitive, and social well-being. The successful candidate will integrate music therapy into comprehensive treatment plans, working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to support patient recovery, reduce pain and anxiety, and improve quality of life within a hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive music therapy assessments to identify patient needs and establish treatment goals.
- Develop and implement individualized or group music therapy interventions based on patient goals and clinical best practices.
- Utilize a variety of music therapy techniques including receptive music listening, song writing, improvisation, music-assisted relaxation, and vocalization.
- Document patient progress, responses to interventions, and treatment outcomes in electronic health records.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, nurses, social workers, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Educate patients, families, and staff on the benefits and principles of music therapy.
- Maintain professional competence through ongoing education, supervision, and adherence to ethical standards.
- Participate in departmental meetings, case conferences, and program development initiatives.
Required Skills
- Board Certification in Music Therapy (MT-BC) from the Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT).
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music Therapy from an AMTA-approved program.
- Proficiency in multiple musical instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, voice).
- Strong clinical assessment and intervention skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Empathy, compassion, and the ability to build rapport with diverse patient populations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and hospital protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Music Therapy or related field.
- Prior experience working as a music therapist in a hospital or medical setting.
- Experience with specific patient populations (e.g., oncology, pediatrics, palliative care, mental health).
- Advanced clinical training or certifications (e.g., NMT, GIM).
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
