Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Rehabilitation Music Aide to join our Physical Therapy support team on an ongoing basis. This unique role combines the power of music with therapeutic support to enhance patient recovery and well-being. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of licensed Physical Therapists and Music Therapists, assisting in the implementation of treatment plans that integrate musical elements to achieve rehabilitation goals. This position is ideal for individuals passionate about healthcare, music, and making a tangible impact on patients’ lives within a dynamic clinical setting. You will provide direct support to patients, prepare therapy spaces, and contribute to a positive and healing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Physical Therapists and Music Therapists in preparing and executing individual and group therapy sessions utilizing music as a therapeutic modality.
- Help patients with transfers, mobility, and exercise routines, ensuring safety and comfort.
- Set up and dismantle equipment, including musical instruments, therapy tools, and assistive devices.
- Provide encouraging and supportive interactions with patients, motivating them during their rehabilitation journey.
- Monitor patient responses to therapy and report observations to supervising therapists.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of therapy areas and equipment.
- Document patient engagement and basic observations as required by department protocols.
- Safeguard patient confidentiality and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
Required Skills
- Strong interest and aptitude for music, with basic understanding of musical principles or ability to play a simple instrument (e.g., guitar, keyboard, percussion).
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and compassion in interacting with diverse patient populations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow instructions precisely and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Physical stamina to assist with patient mobility, transfers, and equipment handling.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare, rehabilitation, or elder care setting.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Enrollment or completion of coursework in music therapy, physical therapy assistant programs, or related fields.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
