Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable University Campus Porter to join our facilities team at the Magee campus in Derry/Londonderry. This crucial role supports the smooth daily operations of our academic environment, ensuring a safe, secure, and well-maintained campus for all. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our community, contributing to a positive experience for students, staff, and visitors, and will benefit from a comprehensive pension scheme as part of our commitment to long-term employee well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general porterage duties, including the movement of furniture, equipment, and deliveries across campus.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of rooms and venues for lectures, events, conferences, and examinations.
- Conduct regular security patrols, ensuring the safety and security of buildings, grounds, and university property.
- Monitor access points, manage key distribution, and respond to alarm activations or security incidents.
- Provide front-line customer service, assisting students, staff, and visitors with queries and directions.
- Carry out minor maintenance tasks and report any significant faults or hazards to the appropriate departments.
- Manage incoming and outgoing mail and parcels, ensuring efficient distribution.
- Assist with waste management and recycling initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all times.
Required Skills
- Ability to carry out physical tasks, including lifting and moving heavy items.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of health and safety procedures.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a porterage, facilities, or security role, preferably within an academic or large institutional setting.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and repairs.
- Full clean driving license.
- First Aid certification.
