Job Description
We are seeking a highly analytical and experienced Economic Policy Analyst to join our esteemed team, focusing specifically on the intersection of economic policy, financial markets, and Wall Street activities. This role involves comprehensive research, analysis, and interpretation of global, national, and regional economic policies and their potential impacts on financial instruments, market trends, and our business strategies. The successful candidate will provide critical insights to senior leadership, supporting strategic decision-making and risk management in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis of economic policy proposals, legislative changes, and regulatory developments with a focus on their implications for financial markets, banking, and investment.
- Monitor and evaluate macroeconomic trends, central bank policies, fiscal policies, and geopolitical events relevant to the financial industry.
- Develop and maintain quantitative models to forecast the potential impact of policy changes on various asset classes, market liquidity, and corporate earnings.
- Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and briefings for internal stakeholders, including senior executives, portfolio managers, and risk committees.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including investment banking, sales and trading, and asset management, to provide timely and actionable policy analysis.
- Represent the firm in discussions with policymakers, industry groups, and academic institutions, where appropriate.
- Stay abreast of economic literature, financial market innovations, and emerging risks and opportunities.
- Provide expert commentary and insights on economic policy for internal and external communications.
- Contribute to the development of firm-wide policy positions and advocacy efforts.
Required Skills
- Master's or Ph.D. in Economics, Public Policy, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in economic policy analysis, financial market research, or a similar role within a financial institution, government agency, or think tank.
- Strong understanding of macroeconomic principles, monetary and fiscal policy, and international finance.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial markets, including equities, fixed income, foreign exchange, and derivatives.
- Proficiency in statistical and econometric software (e.g., Python, R, Stata, EViews) and data visualization tools.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex economic concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a demanding, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with or within regulatory bodies (e.g., Federal Reserve, Treasury, SEC).
- CFA designation or progress towards it.
- Experience with big data analytics and machine learning techniques applied to economic or financial data.
- Demonstrated track record of publishing research or presenting at industry conferences.
