Job Description

Are you a music enthusiast with an uncanny ability to spot emerging talent before anyone else? Do you live and breathe new sounds, spending your nights at local shows and your days scouring the internet for the next big artist? Atlantic Records is seeking a highly motivated and energetic A&R Scout Trainee to join our team in Detroit. This is an entry-level, hands-on opportunity for an individual with an insatiable passion for music and a keen ear for commercial potential. You will be instrumental in the earliest stages of talent discovery, working closely with our experienced A&R team to identify, research, and present artists who align with Atlantic’s vision. This role requires a proactive approach, excellent networking skills, and a genuine love for the vibrant music scene.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively scout local, national, and digital music scenes to identify promising new artists, bands, and producers.
  • Attend live shows, open mic nights, and industry showcases (both in-person and virtually) to evaluate talent.
  • Research and analyze artists' online presence, social media engagement, streaming numbers, and fan bases.
  • Build and maintain a robust network of industry contacts, including managers, producers, promoters, and other tastemakers.
  • Prepare comprehensive talent reports, including artist profiles, music samples, and market analysis.
  • Assist the A&R team with administrative tasks, scheduling meetings, and managing demo submissions.
  • Stay informed about current music trends, emerging genres, and competitive landscape.
  • Contribute creative ideas for artist development and marketing strategies.

Required Skills

  • Profound knowledge of and passion for contemporary music across various genres.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to network effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently.
  • Excellent listening skills and an intuitive sense for commercial appeal.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms and digital music services (e.g., Spotify, Apple Music, SoundCloud, YouTube, TikTok).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to attend live events.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience (internship or volunteer) in the music industry, entertainment, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with the local Detroit music scene and its key players.
  • Basic understanding of music production, songwriting, or music business principles.
  • Degree or coursework in Music Business, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
