Job Description
As a Brewing Chemist at E&J Gallo Winery, you will be an integral part of our beverage science team, focusing on the chemical analysis and quality assurance of our diverse product portfolio. You will contribute to the development of new products, optimize existing processes, and ensure the highest standards of quality and safety across all stages of production. This role offers a unique opportunity to blend scientific expertise with a passion for beverages in a fun, fast-paced, and innovative work culture. This is an on-site position.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct chemical and physical analysis of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished beverage products.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including spectrophotometers, chromatographs (GC/HPLC), and other analytical instruments.
- Develop and validate new analytical methods for beverage components and contaminants.
- Interpret analytical data, identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and provide recommendations for process improvements.
- Collaborate with production, quality control, and R&D teams to ensure product consistency and quality.
- Maintain accurate records and document all laboratory activities in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Participate in sensory evaluation panels to assess product characteristics.
- Contribute to a positive and engaging work environment focused on teamwork and innovation.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Proficiency in analytical chemistry techniques, including chromatography (GC/HPLC), spectroscopy, and wet chemistry.
- Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline.
- 1-3 years of experience in a brewing, beverage, or food chemistry laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of beverage production processes (fermentation, blending, packaging).
- Familiarity with HACCP, GMP, and other food safety regulations.
- Experience with sensory evaluation techniques.
