Job Description

As an A&E Emergency Porter at Altnagelvin Area Hospital, you will be an integral part of our fast-paced Emergency Department team. This demanding night shift role requires individuals who are resilient, empathetic, and possess a strong work ethic. You will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and specimens within the hospital, particularly during critical hours. Your ability to remain calm under pressure and provide compassionate assistance will be crucial in supporting both patients and clinical staff during emergencies. This role offers a night shift premium reflecting the essential nature and challenging hours of the position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients via beds, trolleys, or wheelchairs between departments, ensuring comfort and dignity.
  • Assist clinical staff with moving and positioning patients as required.
  • Transport medical equipment, specimens, blood products, and urgent documentation throughout the hospital.
  • Respond promptly to emergency calls and provide support in critical situations.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment by assisting with tidying and preparing areas.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with patients, visitors, and all hospital staff.
  • Adhere to all health and safety, manual handling, and infection control policies.
  • Maintain discretion and confidentiality regarding patient information.
