Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Pediatric Pharmacy Technician to join our compassionate team. In this vital role, you will support our pharmacists in dispensing medications, preparing sterile and non-sterile compounds, and maintaining accurate inventory, all within a fast-paced children’s hospital setting. This position requires a strong commitment to patient safety, precision, and the ability to work effectively with healthcare professionals and families. You will play a crucial part in ensuring the safe and effective delivery of pharmaceutical care to our young patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of medications, including oral, topical, and sterile products, specifically for pediatric patients.
- Accurately compound sterile preparations using aseptic technique in a laminar flow hood or isolator.
- Maintain accurate medication inventory, order supplies, and manage stock rotation to prevent waste.
- Process medication orders, verify patient information, and assist with medication reconciliation.
- Operate and maintain automated dispensing systems (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell).
- Provide excellent customer service to nurses, physicians, and other healthcare staff.
- Assist with quality control procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Comply with all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., USP <797>, <800>).
Required Skills
- Active Pharmacy Technician license in California
- Current PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) certification
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a hospital or pediatric setting
- Proficiency in aseptic technique for sterile compounding
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
- Basic computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Pharmacy Technology or related field
- Experience with hospital pharmacy information systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner)
- Experience with automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell)
- Knowledge of pediatric medication dosages and formulations
