Job Description

Go Outdoors in Darlington is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Outdoor & Camping Gear Outfitter to join our retail sales team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys engaging with customers, sharing their passion for outdoor pursuits, and providing expert advice on everything from tents and sleeping bags to hiking boots and waterproof jackets. You will play a key role in creating a welcoming and informative shopping experience, ensuring our customers leave with the right gear and a smile.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and engage customers in a friendly and professional manner, identifying their needs for outdoor and camping gear.
- Provide expert advice and product demonstrations on a wide range of outdoor equipment, clothing, and accessories.
- Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently using our point-of-sale (POS) system.
- Maintain a tidy, well-stocked, and visually appealing sales floor, including setting up product displays.
- Assist with inventory management, including receiving, unpacking, and restocking merchandise.
- Handle customer inquiries, returns, and exchanges in line with company policies.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest outdoor gear trends, products, and technologies.
- Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine interest in outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, climbing, or watersports.
- Basic computer literacy for POS systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a customer-focused approach.
- Ability to lift and move merchandise weighing up to 25 kg.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in retail sales, particularly within the outdoor or sporting goods industry.
- In-depth knowledge of specific outdoor gear categories (e.g., tents, backpacks, navigation, apparel).
- First aid certification (desirable but not essential).
