Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and reliable Hospital Porters to join our essential team within South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. As a Hospital Porter, you will play a crucial role in the smooth running of our hospital, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, specimens, and supplies throughout the facility. This role is physically demanding but incredibly rewarding, contributing directly to patient care and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities
- Transporting patients safely and comfortably between wards, departments, and other areas using wheelchairs, trolleys, and beds.
- Moving medical equipment, supplies, furniture, and laboratory specimens across various hospital locations.
- Delivering mail, packages, and other items within the hospital premises.
- Assisting with the management of waste, including clinical and general waste, ensuring proper disposal procedures are followed.
- Maintaining a clean and tidy working environment, reporting any hazards or spills.
- Responding to urgent requests promptly and efficiently, often under pressure.
- Adhering to all health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and Trust guidelines.
- Providing compassionate and respectful interaction with patients, visitors, and staff at all times.
Required Skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good physical fitness and ability to lift and move heavy items.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong sense of responsibility.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a portering or similar role within a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of basic infection control procedures.
- First Aid certification.
