Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Cardiac Unit Porter to join our specialized Heart Specialist Hospital team. This vital role involves supporting the smooth operation of our cardiac unit by ensuring the safe and efficient transport of patients, equipment, and supplies. You will be a crucial link in the patient journey, providing essential support to clinical staff and comfort to patients and their families during what can be a challenging time. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and compassionately transport patients, often by wheelchair or bed, to and from the Cardiac Unit, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
  • Move medical equipment, laboratory specimens, medical records, and supplies efficiently within the hospital environment.
  • Assist clinical staff with the preparation and tidying of treatment rooms and patient areas.
  • Respond promptly to requests for portering services, including emergency calls, adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of transport equipment and designated storage areas.
  • Communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, visitors, and all members of the multidisciplinary team.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures, including infection control, health and safety, and patient confidentiality.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
  • Physical fitness and the ability to safely lift, push, and pull heavy loads (e.g., beds, trolleys, equipment).
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong teamwork ethic and the ability to work independently when required.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to understand work schedules and complete basic documentation.
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or hospital environment, particularly in a portering or support role.
  • Knowledge of manual handling techniques and patient safety procedures.
  • First Aid certification or willingness to undergo training.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations within a hospital setting.
